About
Also known as: Nasareth, Nazaret, Nazarteh
Few rock bands can claim a single that spent 60 weeks on a national chart, but Nazareth pulled that off with their cover of "Love Hurts", which also hit number one in six countries and gave the Scottish hard rock outfit their only US Top Ten entry. Formed in Dunfermline in 1968, they built their reputation through relentless touring and a string of UK hits like "Broken Down Angel" and "Bad Bad Boy" before their 1975 album Hair of the Dog broke them internationally. The title track became a staple of rock radio, and a 1993 Guns N' Roses cover of it only cemented the song's legacy. Nazareth kept recording and touring well past the point when many of their contemporaries had packed it in. The 2011 album Big Dogz and the 2018 release Tattooed on My Brain show a band that never really stopped. Pete Agnew, the original bassist, remains the last surviving founding member, keeping the band going through numerous lineup changes over more than five decades.
