Few bands from the early 1970s left a mark quite like Uriah Heep. Formed in London in 1969 out of a group called Spice, they became genuine pioneers of hard rock, heavy metal and progressive rock, selling over 40 million albums worldwide. Their guitar driven sound, Ken Hensley's heavy organ work and David Byron's soaring theatrical vocals defined classic tracks like "July Morning", "Easy Livin'", "The Wizard" and "Lady in Black", the last of which became a massive hit in Germany years after its release. Over a career stretching more than five decades, the band went through an extraordinary number of lineup changes, with guitarist Mick Box the sole constant through all of it. Former members include bassist John Wetton, drummer Lee Kerslake and keyboardist Ken Hensley, names that read like a who's who of classic rock. Their peak commercial moment came with Demons and Wizards in 1972, which reached number 23 on the Billboard 200, while Return to Fantasy hit number 7 on the UK Albums Chart in 1975. They still draw arena sized crowds in Germany, Japan, the Netherlands and Scandinavia.
