Rodrigo y Gabriela built their name busking on Grafton Street in Dublin, a long way from their origins in Mexico City's heavy metal scene. The Mexican acoustic guitar duo, Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero, channel Metallica and Led Zeppelin influences through flamenco and nuevo flamenco, creating an unmistakably intense instrumental sound that doesn't need a single lyric to pull you in. Their self titled album entered the Irish Albums Chart at number one, beating out Arctic Monkeys and Johnny Cash, and their song "Tamacun" landed in the pilot episode of Breaking Bad. Over the years they've performed for President Obama at the White House, played Red Rocks Amphitheatre alongside Metallica's Robert Trujillo, and collaborated with composer Hans Zimmer. Their 2020 album Mettavolution won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, and their most recent record, In Between Thoughts…A New World, arrived in April 2023. They've also shown their range with covers like Dave Brubeck's "Take Five", proving their musical curiosity stretches well beyond any single genre.
