About

French coloratura soprano Sabine Devieilhe has an asteroid named after her, which feels about right for a voice that critics keep reaching for superlatives to describe. Born in Ifs, near Caen, she has built a reputation as one of the most compelling interpreters of Mozart, Baroque repertoire, and 19th century opera, often mentioned in the same breath as Natalie Dessay. Her Queen of the Night has become something of a signature role, performed at the Paris Opera, the Royal Opera in London, and beyond. She signed with Erato in 2013 and has since released a string of records that cut across Rameau, Bach, Handel, and French song. Her Rameau debut album with Alexis Kossenko won a Diapason d'or, and her album Mirages with conductor François Xavier Roth brought her further recognition at the Victoires de la musique classique. Her Carnegie Hall debut in 2019 was a program of French songs by Debussy and his circle, which feels like a natural fit for a singer equally at home in opera and recital.
