Satoshi Tomiie's career got off to a remarkable start when his very first release, the 1989 single "Tears", co produced with Frankie Knuckles, became an instant club hit. That kind of debut sets a high bar, and Tomiie has spent the decades since clearing it. He spent time in the early 1990s touring and playing keyboard for Ryuichi Sakamoto, and his precision engineered club rhythms earned him remix duties for some serious heavyweights including U2, David Bowie, Mariah Carey and Simply Red. His 2000 album Full Lick pushed his sound into darker, more hypnotic territory, built around twisted electronic rhythms and haunting vocals. Beyond his own productions, he co runs SAW Recordings with Hector Romero, a label dedicated to keeping the Chicago and New York house tradition alive and evolving. More recently he has explored ambient house on the album Blue, Black And Grey, released under the name Sato.
