About

A trio from Manchester, Shaking Hand make long, slowly building post rock that shifts between moods and time signatures. Their influences read like a very specific record collection: Women, Slint, Sonic Youth, Pavement and Ulrika Spacek on the experimental guitar side, balanced out by the melodic sensibility of Big Thief and the dynamic intimacy of Yo La Tengo. Modernist architecture and 1990s American alternative music are both cited as reference points, alongside midwestern emo. Live, they come across as restrained and explosive in equal measure, a power trio that never wastes a note. Their self titled debut album runs to 42 minutes and draws all those threads together, also bringing in the influence of Palm. They have also recorded a cover of The Shining by Badly Drawn Boy, which gives a decent hint at the range hiding behind the post rock tag.
