About
Shallowater call their sound "West Texas dirtgaze," which tells you a lot: there is dust and space baked into everything they do. The Houston trio blends slowcore, post rock, alternative country, emo, and post hardcore into something that feels genuinely unhurried, with vocalist Blake Skipper mostly singing in a soft whisper and the band deliberately stretching songs to open up room between verses and choruses. Their touchstones include Neil Young, Red House Painters, and Hum, a range that explains why the music feels both tender and heavy at once. Their 2023 debut There Is a Well put them on the map, and a cosign from Ethel Cain on Instagram helped spread the word. They spent 2024 on the road with Horse Jumper of Love and They Are Gutting a Body of Water, building a dedicated following the slow way. Their second album God's Gonna Give You a Million Dollars arrived in 2025 to strong notices, landing album of the week at Stereogum and earning praise from BPM.
