Greg Freeman makes the kind of alternative country that sneaks up on you. Based in Burlington, Vermont, he put out his debut album I Looked Out in 2022 on Bud Tapes, and it found its audience slowly enough that Canvasback Music, an imprint of Transgressive Records, picked it up for a reissue in 2024. That kind of quiet word of mouth momentum says something about the music. His second full length, Burnover, followed in 2025, building on the reputation the debut had been quietly earning for a couple of years. With two albums now out in the world, Freeman is carving out a distinctive space in the alt country landscape.
