About
Skinflower orbits some heavy themes: death, love, God, sex, beauty, collapse and resurrection. Musically, the trio refuses to sit still in one genre. They move between crushing metal and punk in the vein of Melvins and Neurosis, bleak pop noir territory reminiscent of Nick Cave and Tindersticks, and the cold atmospherics of new wave acts like The Cure and Joy Division. Epic is probably the one word that ties it all together. The band is drummer Eric van de Pas, bassist and vocalist Mark Deuze, and guitarist/vocalist Leon Heuts. They originally formed in Eindhoven in the late eighties before losing touch for nearly two decades. A reunion just before the pandemic set them back in motion, older and shaped by loss, love and the spiritual weight of lived experience. Their home base is now Nijmegen, where Eric built the band's studio himself from the ground up.
