Sophie Hutchings is an Australian pianist and composer whose music gravitates toward slow, looping, dreamlike piano pieces that feel at once fragile and intimate. Her style developed quietly and almost privately before she eventually stepped into the public eye with her debut album Becalmed. Since then she has built a catalogue of eight studio albums, picked up two Australian Music Prize nominations, earned coverage in MOJO and The Guardian, and landed a top five spot among live instrumentalists at the National Live Music Awards. Her album Scattered On The Wind marked her first release on the Mercury KX label. Nature feeds directly into her sound. A keen surfer and outdoor enthusiast, she draws heavily from the vast Australian landscape, and that sense of open space turns up throughout her compositions. Her work tends to be elegant and quietly romantic, shaped by a delicate vulnerability that keeps things feeling personal rather than showy. She has collaborated with artists including Ólafur Arnalds, Hauschka, Federico Albanese and Lambert.
