Also known as: Speedy J.
Rotterdam's Jochem Paap, better known as Speedy J, built his reputation on a single deceptively simple techno track. "Pullover", released in 1992, broke into the mainstream while Paap was already deep in the underground, signed to Richie Hawtin's Plus 8 label out of Canada. His debut LP Ginger landed in 1993, part of Warp Records' landmark Artificial Intelligence series, and Armin van Buuren later credited it as a major early influence. From there, Speedy J kept moving. His NovaMute years pushed into darker, more industrial electronic territory, and his 2002 album Loudboxer came in a vinyl edition pressed with 200 locked grooves instead of conventional tracks. He runs his own Electric Deluxe label, has collaborated with figures like Mike Paradinas and Chris Liebing, and in 2024 released Two Hours Or Something alongside Surgeon under the name Multiples.
