About
Also known as: Sqeeze, UK Squeeze
Squeeze built their reputation on the songwriting partnership of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, a duo so celebrated that critics dubbed them the heirs to Lennon and McCartney during the band's late 1970s peak. Out of Deptford in south east London, they became one of the defining acts of the new wave era, scoring UK top ten hits with "Cool for Cats", "Up the Junction", and "Labelled with Love", while cracking the American market through "Tempted" and "Black Coffee in Bed". The band has been through more than 30 musicians over the decades, including a young Jools Holland and Paul Carrack, both of whom went on to serious careers of their own. Squeeze broke up twice, reformed twice, and kept releasing records well into the 2010s. Their 2015 album Cradle to the Grave turned out to be their highest charting album of original material in the UK. They have continued putting out new music since, with The Knowledge in 2017 and Trixies arriving in 2026.
