About
SubRosa built a cult following by doing something almost no one else in doom metal was doing: layering violins over crushing, sludge heavy riffs to create something that felt both ancient and overwhelming. The Salt Lake City band, led by vocalist Rebecca Vernon, earned serious critical respect across a 13 year run that produced four studio albums, each one refining that blend of folk textures, orchestral weight, and walls of distorted sound. Records like More Constant Than the Gods and For This We Fought the Battle of Ages landed on year end lists across the metal press, cementing their reputation as one of the more distinctive acts in heavy music. The band called it quits in 2019, with four members going on to form The Otolith and Vernon launching a solo project, The Keening, which put out its debut album in October 2023. Then, at the close of 2025, SubRosa announced a reunion, so the story is not quite finished.
