Few tribute acts earn the stamp of approval from the people they're paying homage to, but The Australian Pink Floyd Show pulled it off. Formed in Adelaide in 1988 under the name Think Floyd, the band eventually caught the attention of David Gilmour himself, who watched them perform at Fairfield Halls and then invited them to the end of tour party for The Division Bell. They even played at Gilmour's 50th birthday in 1996, making them the only Pink Floyd tribute act to have performed for an actual member of the band. The production they bring to each show is serious. Guitarist Steve Mac's rig mirrors Gilmour's setup using components made by Pete Cornish, the same builder Gilmour used. The live show pulls in lasers, inflatables including their own giant pink kangaroo called Skippy, and a round screen loaded with animations and visuals. They've taken this spectacle to venues and festivals across Europe, the Americas, and beyond, releasing live recordings along the way including a DVD of their Dark Side of the Moon performance in Liverpool and another from the Royal Albert Hall.
