About
Also known as: George Roger Waters, Waters, ロジャー・ウォーターズ
Roger Waters co founded Pink Floyd in 1965 as its bassist, and after Syd Barrett's departure in 1968 he became the band's primary lyricist and the driving conceptual force behind some of rock's most ambitious albums. The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall and The Final Cut were all shaped by his vision, and Pink Floyd became one of the biggest selling acts in history on the back of them. Waters left the band in 1985 amid creative clashes, sparking a legal dispute over the Pink Floyd name that was eventually settled out of court. His solo catalogue stretches from The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking through to Is This the Life We Really Want? in 2017, and in 2005 he released Ça Ira, a full opera about the French Revolution. He has toured relentlessly as a solo artist, and his Wall Live run from 2010 to 2013 was at that point the highest grossing tour ever by a solo act. Politics runs through everything he does, from his support for the BDS movement to his outspoken stance on conflicts around the world, making him one of rock's most controversial and hard to ignore figures.
