With over forty albums since forming in London in 1980, The Legendary Pink Dots have built one of the more quietly astonishing catalogues in experimental music. Their sound pulls from neo psychedelia, ambient, synthpop, post punk, noise, psychedelic folk and goth rock all at once, yet somehow remains instantly recognisable. Ka Spel's distinct vocals and songwriting are the constant thread, and critics have drawn comparisons to Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett, as well as krautrock acts like Can, Faust and Neu! The band relocated from London to Amsterdam in 1984 and have kept a devoted worldwide following ever since, despite never really chasing mainstream attention. They collaborated with Skinny Puppy's cEvin Key in a side project called The Tear Garden, and their influence can be heard in acts as varied as MGMT and The Dresden Dolls. Since 2022 the lineup has shifted, with Randall Frazier stepping in on synths and electronics alongside guitarist Erik Drost and live electronics operator Joep Hendrikx.
