About
The Marian Consort has built a reputation as one of the UK's most dedicated champions of early music, ranging from 12th century repertoire all the way through to newly commissioned contemporary works. Led by founder and artistic director Rory McCleery, the eight voice ensemble tours internationally and has released more than a dozen albums, most recently on the Linn Records label. One of their most distinctive causes is the music of Vicente Lusitano, a 16th century Black composer whose work they have performed at the BBC Proms and committed to disc, including the first ever commercial recordings of music from his 1551 volume Liber Primus Epigramatum. Formed in 2008, they have also premiered works by contemporary composers and run Emerging Voices, a talent development programme for composers launched for 2024 to 2025.
