About
Cappella Amsterdam is a chamber choir based in Amsterdam. The ensemble has worked alongside harpist Lavinia Meijer on a programme of music by Philip Glass, with the repertoire drawn from Glass's output and arranged for harp and choir. The collaboration gave both performers equal footing, allowing the choir and harp to share the musical space rather than one serving as accompaniment to the other. The Glass arrangements had their roots in Meijer's recordings of Metamorphosis, originally written for piano, which found a wide commercial audience. Cappella Amsterdam's involvement brought a choral dimension to that material, presenting Glass's minimal music in a form that diverges noticeably from his more familiar instrumental recordings.
