Thomas Dunford (FR)

About

BBC Music Magazine once called Thomas Dunford the "Eric Clapton of the lute", and it's not hard to see why. The Paris born French lutenist has built a reputation as one of the most compelling early music performers around, playing with top ensembles like Les Arts Florissants and Le Concert d'Astrée while also carving out a strong solo career. His debut CD Lachrimae picked up the Caecilia prize, and his follow up Labirinto d'Amore earned a Choc from Classica magazine. Beyond his solo work, Dunford is the artistic director of the Jupiter Ensemble. His repertoire stretches across baroque and Renaissance music, and he has also turned his hand to arranging, with lute versions of Bach's Cello Suites and the famous Chaconne from the Violin Partita No. 2 among his recordings. Recent activity points to continued engagement with Purcell, including music from The Fairy Queen.
