Timo Maas built his reputation the hard way, grinding through years of German rave nights before his remix of Azzido Da Bass's "Doom's Night" hit number 8 on the UK Singles Chart and shifted half a million copies worldwide. Co produced with Martin Buttrich in a single three hour session, it was the kind of track that opens every door. His 2002 debut album Loud followed on Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto label, pulling in Kelis, Neneh Cherry and Placebo's Brian Molko, and bridging electronic music with alternative rock in a way that felt genuinely bold at the time. Over a career stretching past 30 years, Maas has remixed Depeche Mode, Tori Amos, Madonna, Muse, Moby and Paul McCartney among many others, earning two Grammy nominations along the way. His label Rockets and Ponies has released music from Ricardo Villalobos and Nightmares on Wax, and he spent over 15 years as a resident DJ at Ibiza's DC10. Few producers can claim that kind of range across the booth and the studio.
