About
Tiwayo is a Paris based French singer and songwriter whose stage name comes from the initials T.Y.O., standing for "The Young Old," a nickname he picked up while travelling in the United States. His music sits at the crossroads of soul, blues and folk, and critics have pointed to Memphis soul and Mississippi blues as clear touchstones in his sound. His debut album, The Gypsy Soul of Tiwayo, came out in 2019 on Blue Note/Decca France and caught attention across European radio, from RTBF to Deutschlandfunk Kultur. His second album, Desert Dream, arrived in 2023 on Time and Place Records and took a more stripped back, introspective turn, with RTS comparing its mood to Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska and drawing on gospel, soul and rock from the 1960s and 1970s. France Bleu summed it up simply as "an album that breathes the soul of the blues."
