About
Also known as: Anthony Lawrence Carey, Friends, Friends of Tony Carey, Tony Cary
Tony Carey built his reputation as the keyboard player on Rainbow's landmark 1976 album Rising, contributing the iconic intro to 'Tarot Woman' and an extended solo on 'A Light in the Black'. After parting ways with Rainbow in 1977 and relocating to Germany, he threw himself into an ambitious solo career that ranged from AOR radio hits to progressive rock experiments. His 1982 album I Won't Be Home Tonight cracked the Billboard 200 and sent 'A Fine, Fine Day' all the way to number one on Billboard's Top Rock Tracks, while under the alias Planet P Project he released Pink World, a full rock opera where he wrote everything, sang everything, and played nearly every instrument himself. The Planet P Project side of his work leaned into progressive and experimental territory, kept deliberately separate from his Tony Carey releases.
