Brooklyn postpunkers TVOD have a knack for pairing emotionally raw, occasionally absurd lyrics with energetic, hook driven songs that get crowds dancing and moshing in equal measure. The project was started in 2019 by singer and songwriter Tyler Wright, drawing on influences from postpunk, eggpunk and krautrock and weaving them into something that feels surprisingly seamless. The subject matter is firmly rooted in lived experience: the New York nightlife and music scene, heartbreak, even the untimely death of a beloved pet all make their way into the songs. The result is a kind of gritty, self aware portrait of a DIY artist navigating the city, told with equal parts candor and irony.
