Villagerrr is the project of American songwriter Mark Scott, whose music sits somewhere between slowcore, shoegaze, log cabin folk, and sprawling indie rock. His fifth album, Carousel, pulls those threads together into large, melancholic songs built for empty highways and long drives, where vulnerability, doubt, and a longing for something genuine all share the same space. The sound shifts fluidly, from something intimate enough to catch every quiet detail to something that swells like a storm rolling across an open landscape. Carousel grew out of the creative circle that formed around his previous record, Tear Your Heart Out, which brought tours with Real Estate, Greg Freeman, and Momma. For the newer album, Scott collaborated with a range of folk and indie rock artists including Boone Patrello of Teethe, h. pruz, and Carolina Chauffe of Hemlock. The record looks critically at the world around us, but its deeper concern is what becomes possible when you drop your guard and let other people in.
