About
Waylander were chewing on Irish folk and extreme metal years before "folk metal" was a tag anyone reached for. The band started out in 1993, and their early demos, Once Upon an Era and Dawning of a New Age, got them labelled as folk, Celtic and pagan metal almost immediately. Adding a full time tin whistle player in 1996 helped lock in their sound, and it caught the attention of Century Media Records, who put out their debut album Reawakening Pride Once Lost in 1998. The road since then hasn't been smooth, with label headaches and plenty of line up changes along the way. Still, they've kept going, releasing The Light, the Dark and the Endless Knot, Honour Amongst Chaos, Kindred Spirits and Ériú's Wheel. They've played festivals like Bloodstock and Day of Darkness, and shared stages with Cathedral and Ancient Rites. Ciaran O'Hagan has fronted the band from day one.
