About
Youn Sun Nah came to jazz by a winding route. Born in 1969, she studied French, moved to Paris to learn chanson, and only then drifted toward jazz. Along the way she also recorded a pop album that became a bestseller in South Korea, her home country. She now has thirteen albums behind her and has played major jazz festivals around the world, including Montreal, Marciac, Monterey and Montreux. What sets her apart is her singing style and her habit of giving every song an unexpected twist, so a cover ends up sounding like her own. On Lost Pieces she goes back to writing her own material and steps forward more clearly as a singer songwriter. Live, she usually works with a small band of guitar, double bass and drums.
