About
Also known as: æspa, 에스파
Aespa blur the line between reality and virtual worlds in a way that goes way beyond a gimmick. The Seoul quartet, made up of Karina, Giselle, Winter and Ningning, each have a digital avatar counterpart, and that multiverse concept runs all the way through their music. Their debut single Black Mamba racked up 100 million YouTube views in 51 days, a record for a debuting K pop act at the time. Their first full studio album Armageddon dropped in May 2024 and cleared a million pre order copies before it even came out. The ten track set swings from the hyperpop kick and bass of lead single Supernova to the guitar driven pop punk of Live My Life and a piano fan anthem to close things out. Critics at NME called them exquisite when given room to run, and Billboard described the album as an artistic evolution that pushes their narrative into an expansive multiverse.
