About
Named after a Velvet Underground song, Afterhours have been Milan's most restless alternative rock force since forming in 1985 around frontman Manuel Agnelli. Their early records came out in English, but from 1995's Germi onward they committed to Italian, and that shift unlocked something: albums like Hai paura del buio? became touchstones of Italian rock. Their international connections are genuinely impressive. Greg Dulli of Afghan Whigs produced Ballads for Little Hyenas and toured the US with them, while Agnelli co wrote two songs on the Twilight Singers record Powder Burns. The band also backed Dulli and Mark Lanegan's Gutter Twins project. A 2014 special edition of Hai paura del buio? brought in Lanegan, John Parish, Damo Suzuki, and Joan as Policewoman to reinterpret the whole album, which says a lot about the company they keep.
