Alok Achkar Peres Petrillo grew up surrounded by electronic music in the most literal sense: his parents, DJs Swarup and Ekanta, are pioneers of psytrance in Brazil and founders of the legendary Universo Paralello festival in Bahia. Even his name carries a spiritual story, given to him after his parents travelled to India and met guru Osho, who suggested the Sanskrit word for "light". By age 12 he was already behind the decks, learning alongside his fraternal twin brother Bhaskar before eventually striking out on his own solo path. His 2016 single "Hear Me Now" put him on the global map, and he has barely slowed down since. DJ Mag ranked him fourth best DJ in the world for four consecutive years from 2021, and in 2025 he climbed to third. He also founded the record label Controversia in partnership with Spinnin Records, built specifically to push Brazilian bass music to international audiences. Beyond music, he even became a playable character in the mobile game Garena Free Fire, where he ended up being the most used character in the game.
