About
Also known as: AMK
AnnenMayKantereit, often shortened to AMK, built their following the old fashioned way: busking on the streets of Cologne before anyone knew their name. The Cologne band, whose name stitches together the surnames of its three founding members, sings almost entirely in German, and their sound has a raw, lived in quality that owes a lot to frontman Henning May's distinctive rough edged voice. Their 2016 album "Alles Nix Konkretes" hit number one on the German charts, and their third album "12" arrived in November 2020 with no prior announcement whatsoever. They are just as comfortable covering other people's songs as writing their own. Their take on Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner", recorded with Giant Rooks, cracked the UK Singles Chart Top 100 in 2022, their first ever UK hit. On the collaborative side, K.I.Z featured Henning May on their track "Hurra die Welt geht unter", and AMK have also covered songs alongside acts like Milky Chance and Parcels. Since 2022, their live setup has expanded to include a string quartet and a four piece jazz combo.
