Breaking Benjamin built their reputation on a sound that is almost instantly recognizable: crunching guitars, swelling choruses, and lyrics that lean hard into angst and tension. The Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania band was founded by Benjamin Burnley, who has remained the creative core through every lineup change since 1999. Their early albums Saturate and We Are Not Alone laid the groundwork, with singles like "So Cold" and "Sooner or Later" both hitting number two on the Mainstream Rock chart. A collaboration with Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins produced three tracks on We Are Not Alone, a stint Burnley called one of the highlights of his career. After legal disputes fractured the original lineup and a lengthy hiatus, Burnley rebuilt the band with a completely new set of members in 2014. The comeback album Dark Before Dawn debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, proving that the formula still had serious pull. Ember followed in 2018, reaching number three. Across their catalog, the band has moved more than 19 million units in the US alone, with three platinum records to their name.
