Rotterdam's own David Vunk has spent decades carving out a reputation as one of the most distinctive figures in Dutch underground dance music. Born David Daniel Versteeg, he blends electro, disco, italo, Chicago house, techno, acid and EBM into a sound that's unmistakably his own. He founded his label Moustache Records in 2007, later adding the Moustache Techno Series sublabel in 2011, giving him a platform to release his own records alongside collaborators like Alden Tyrell and Ben La Desh. Since 2017 he has been one half of IM Kellar, an EBM wave techno project with David Spanish that taps into what they call the underground Kelderboxsound of Rotterdam. He appeared in the 2018 documentary Italo Disco Legacy, and in 2021 he teamed up with De Likt to produce the promotional track for that year's Eurovision Song Contest. Nicknames like 'Het Beest van Rotterdam' and 'The Vunkinator' tell you plenty about how the Rotterdam crowd feels about him.
