About
Girls in Airports brings a restless, globe trotting energy to jazz, which makes sense for a Copenhagen group that has toured across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and beyond. Formed in 2009 by five students from the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, they built a sound rooted in jazz but loose enough to earn the label cross over, winning the Danish Music Award for Danish Cross Over Jazz Release of the Year in 2010 with their debut. Over the years they have put out a steady run of records, from early releases on Mawi Music through to collaborations with the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra on Leap in 2021 and their most recent album How It Is Now in 2023. When Lars Greve left in 2019 and 2020, the band reshuffled into a quartet and kept moving, which pretty much sums up their approach: always in transit, always finding new ground.
