About
Also known as: M.D. Goldie, MD Goldie, Mack Daddy Goldie
Goldie is one of the architects of drum and bass, the Walsall born producer and DJ who helped drag jungle out of the underground and into the mainstream with his 1995 debut album Timeless. That record is a landmark: it fused breakbeats and basslines with orchestral textures and the soulful voice of Diane Charlemagne, and its title track ran for a full 21 minutes. Music critic Simon Reynolds put it plainly in The Wire, writing that Goldie revolutionised jungle not once but three times, pointing to the pitch shifting of Terminator, the live vocal fusion of Angel, and the symphonic ambition of Timeless itself. Beyond that debut, Goldie co founded the influential label Metalheadz and later launched Fallen Tree 1Hundred in 2020. His 1998 follow up Saturnz Return pulled in David Bowie, Noel Gallagher and KRS One for an hour long opening track that divided critics but confirmed his appetite for scale. He called his 2017 album The Journey Man his magnum opus. More recently, his Rufige Kru project has stayed active, with a 2025 collaboration featuring CASISDEAD showing he is still very much at it.
