About
Also known as: The Buddy Odor Stop
Gruppo Sportivo from The Hague have been one of the more distinctive acts in Dutch pop since their formation in 1976, mixing catchy melodies with humor, slapstick, and knowing musical in jokes. Frontman Hans Vandenburg drove the songwriting, and the band hit their stride with the albums 10 Mistakes (1977) and Back to '78 (1978), producing tracks like 'Beep Beep Love', 'Hey Girl', 'Tokyo (I'm On My Way)' and 'Disco Really Made It' that became nederpop classics. They even picked up some traction in the UK and US, and Radio and Records named them Top Newcomer in 1978. The band went through several breakups and reunions over the decades, releasing albums that shifted their following toward Germany, Italy and Spain in the eighties. After a hiatus that began in 2013, they came back in 2018 with Great, a new album that landed to solid critical notices. In 2022 they took things in a playful direction with The Spotify Tour, performing their 25 most streamed songs in reverse order across more than 25 cities.
