About

Also known as: Isobel Fitzroy

Izo FitzRoy writes soul music that doesn't stay neatly in one box. Her 2017 debut Skyline, produced by Dr. Rubberfunk, blended soul, funk, blues and gospel while tackling subjects like Hurricane Katrina and xenophobia. The follow up How The Mighty Fall arrived in 2020, recorded across Paris, London and Sheffield with producers Dimitri from Paris, Shawn Lee and Colin Elliott, plus contributions from Haggis Horns and Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir. Written after a break up, it went deeper and more personal, stretching into disco territory while staying rooted in soul and gospel. It earned her a nomination for Prix Soul at the Académie du Jazz, plus airplay on BBC, NPR, FIP and Jazz Radio. Her third album A Good Woman, produced by Oscar De Jong of Kraak and Smaak, came out in 2023 and pushed further still, folding in rock, pop and bossa nova. At its heart it centres on what it means to be a woman in a male dominated world, including a track inspired by the murder of Sarah Everard.
