Few bands shaped the sound of late 1990s rock quite like Korn. Coming out of Bakersfield, California, they essentially invented nu metal, blending heavy downtuned guitars with hip hop grooves and Jonathan Davis's raw, unsettling vocals. Their 1993 demo Neidermayer's Mind was handed out free at gigs, and by the time Follow the Leader dropped in 1998, they were headlining arenas and debuting at number one on the Billboard 200. Issues followed in 1999 and did the same. Over more than two decades and a string of albums on labels from Immortal to Roadrunner, Korn have sold upwards of 40 million records worldwide. Fourteen of their releases have cracked the top ten of the Billboard 200. Videos like "Freak on a Leash" and "Got the Life" were literally retired from MTV's Total Request Live after running so long. Their 2016 album The Serenity of Suffering marked a return to Roadrunner, and they followed that with The Nothing in 2019 and Requiem in 2022.
