About
POLIÇA built their sound around something genuinely unusual: Channy Leaneagh's voice run through layers of effects pedals, wrapped around dual drummers and a dense synth and bass foundation. The Minneapolis group came together in 2011, rooted in producer Ryan Olson's experimental Gayngs project, and quickly earned a co sign from Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, who called them "the best band I've ever heard" in Rolling Stone. Their debut Give You the Ghost landed on Valentine's Day 2012 and immediately turned heads, with NPR praising the jolt of beauty and power in their live show. Since then POLIÇA have released a string of albums across several labels, moving from Mom + Pop Music through Transgressive to Memphis Industries. Their second album Shulamith took a more personal turn, with Leaneagh citing feminist writer Shulamith Firestone as her muse, and the recording sessions leaned heavily on Bon Iver's April Base studios in Wisconsin. Seven albums in, the band keeps refining that blend of R&B influenced electronics, propulsive rhythm and Leaneagh's processed, spectral vocals.
