About
Ten Foot Pole started life in 1983 as Scared Straight, a hardcore punk band out of Simi Valley, California, deep in the Nardcore scene that was bubbling up around nearby Oxnard. The name change in the early 1990s was deliberate: the band wanted to shake off the straight edge associations that came with the old name and lean into a looser, more party oriented punk sound. Their early Ten Foot Pole albums Swill and Rev featured vocalist Scott Radinsky, who had to step away when his professional baseball career took over, leaving Dennis Jagard to front the band going forward. Jagard, a sound engineer who has mixed for Prince, Beck, AFI, and Jimmy Eat World, steered the band through records on Epitaph, Victory, and Go Kart, building a solid skate punk following across the US, Canada, and Europe. After a long gap without new studio material, they came back with Setlist in 2017, then followed it up with the proper new album Escalating Quickly in 2019, plus Simmer Down in 2020 and Winning in 2022, proving they still have plenty left to say.
