The Haunted Youth is built around Joachim Liebens, a songwriter and producer from Alken, Belgium who writes, produces and records everything himself before bringing in a live band for the stage. The project blends dream pop, psychedelia and shoegaze into a sound that the group made count fast: their debut single 'Teen Rebel' won De Nieuwe Lichting in 2021 and quickly climbed into the top three of De Afrekening and Vox. Their first album 'Dawn of the Freak' followed in late 2022 on Mayway Records, packing ten tracks including early singles 'Coming Home' and 'Gone'. The band has been open about mental health throughout, a thread that runs right through the music. 'Teen Rebel' has since landed on the soundtrack of the American horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer, and their second album 'Boys Cry Too' arrived in 2026, its title a nod to the influence of The Cure.
