The Reytons have built something genuinely rare: a grassroots fanbase so devoted it sold out a 20,000 capacity concert in their hometown of Rotherham, the biggest live music event the town has seen since T Rex played there in 1971. The band, fronted by Jonny Yerrell with Joe O'Brien on lead guitar, Lee Holland on bass and Jamie Todd on drums, deals in the kind of direct, no frills indie and pop rock that clearly connects hard with people. They got serious attention with their 2021 debut Kids Off the Estate, which landed at number eleven on the UK Albums Chart, but their second record What's Rock and Roll? went all the way to number one in 2023. Their third album Ballad of a Bystander narrowly missed the top spot after a contested chart battle, with the band losing over 2,000 chartable sales following an industry complaint, a situation that sparked real controversy among fans and press alike.
