About

Also known as: Timothy Tyler Childers

Tyler Childers has built one of the most compelling careers in modern Americana by rooting his sound deep in the coal country of Lawrence County, Kentucky. His breakthrough came with Purgatory in 2017, produced by fellow traveler Sturgill Simpson and David R. Ferguson, which put his raw, plainspoken songwriting in front of a much wider audience. He performs with his backing band The Food Stamps, a tight outfit featuring pedal steel, fiddle, and keys that gives his live shows a genuine roots band feel. An Americana Music Honors win for Emerging Act of the Year in 2018 confirmed what fans already knew. Since then Childers has kept pushing his sound in unexpected directions. Long Violent History leaned heavily on traditional fiddle tunes, while Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven? arrived as an ambitious triple album split into three distinct parts. His 2023 album Rustin in the Rain includes a cover of Kris Kristofferson's Help Me Make It Through the Night, showing he is just as comfortable honoring his influences as forging his own path.
