About

The Stadsschouwburg is Utrecht's largest theater building, designed by architect Willem Marinus Dudok and opened on 3 September 1941. Located at Lucasbolwerk on the edge of the city center, it contains two performance spaces: the Douwe Egberts Hall with a capacity of 1000 (or 600 with modified seating) and the smaller Blauwe Zaal, a flat floor theater with approximately 225 seats for intimate performances. The building was recognized as a national monument in 2009 and underwent significant renovations in 1995 and 2002.
