Few rap debuts hit as hard as 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin' in 2003. Signed to Eminem's Shady Records after a 2002 mixtape caught the Detroit rapper's ear, the Queens native rode the album to the top of the Billboard 200, scoring back to back number one singles with "In da Club" and "21 Questions" featuring Nate Dogg. The Massacre followed in 2005 and kept the momentum going, adding "Candy Shop" with Olivia to his run of chart toppers. Beyond the mic, 50 Cent built a genuine empire. He launched G Unit Records in 2003, bringing in Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo as the label's first signees, and later expanded into television as executive producer and star of the long running series Power. With over 30 million albums sold worldwide and a Grammy to his name, he remains one of the defining voices of early 2000s hip hop.
