About
54 Ultra, the project of New Jersey born musician Johnny Rodriguez, sits at a genuinely interesting crossroads: Latin soul vocals, vintage R&B production, and a sound that pulls from salsa and bolero traditions as much as it does from rare soul and indie pop. His stage name alone tells you something about his sensibility, combining the disco club Studio 54 and Frank Ocean's Nostalgia, Ultra into a single reference point. He first turned heads in 2023 with the single "Where Are You?", which tripled his Spotify listener count practically overnight and set him on a path working with producer Max Shrager. His debut EP First Works arrived in May 2025 and got picked up by Billboard as one of the best projects of the year so far, blending new wave influences from George Michael and Robert Smith with his R&B roots. Then in early 2026 his vocals and guitar work appeared on "Talk To You" by Dutch duo Anotr, which went viral on TikTok and hit number one on the WARM Global Dance Radio Chart. Shortly after, he signed with Interscope Records and made his Coachella debut.
