Known simply as "Superstar" in Turkey, Ajda Pekkan has been one of the country's most enduring pop figures for over five decades. Her earlier years were spent turning French, Italian, and English hits into Turkish pop gold, with collaborators like Fecri Ebcioğlu and later Fikret Şeneş shaping her sound. Songs like "İki Yabancı", a Turkish take on Sinatra's "Strangers in the Night", broke sales records back in 1967, and her catalog has sold over 15 million records in Turkey alone. She has never been content to stay in one lane. From recording a French language album in 1978 to working with Sezen Aksu in the 1990s on chart toppers like "Yaz Yaz Yaz" and "Sarıl Bana", Pekkan kept reinventing herself without losing her audience. The French government honored her with the Officier distinction of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and in 2016 she appeared on The Hollywood Reporter's Power 100 list of the most powerful women in entertainment. More recently she has been putting out new Turkish pop material, including tracks with producer Ozan Çolakoğlu.
