About
Alena Baeva announced herself to the classical world in spectacular fashion when, at just 16, she took the Grand Prix at the prestigious International Henryk Wieniawski Competition, walking away with nine Special Prizes on top of that. The violinist, born in the Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic and now a citizen of Luxembourg, has since built a career as a sought after soloist performing with orchestras like the London Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, and Hong Kong Philharmonic, working alongside conductors such as Paavo Järvi and Vladimir Jurowski. Her discography spans a serious range of the concerto repertoire, from Shostakovich and Beethoven to rarer gems like the Karłowicz and Wieniawski concertos, several of them recorded for the Polish label NIFC. She has also recorded chamber works with pianist Vadym Kholodenko. Since 2023, she records exclusively for Alpha Classics, so there is plenty more to look forward to from her.
