Armored Saint built their reputation as one of the heaviest acts to come out of the Los Angeles metal scene in the 1980s, sharing stages with everyone from Judas Priest to Metallica. Their MTV moment came early, with 'Can U Deliver?' off their 1984 debut March of the Saint, and they kept grinding out records through Delirious Nomad and Raising Fear. Interestingly, both singer John Bush and bassist Joey Vera separately turned down offers to join Metallica during this period, each choosing to stay loyal to the band. The real gut punch came when guitarist Dave Prichard was diagnosed with leukemia and died in 1990, just before recording began on what would become Symbol of Salvation. That album, released in 1991, is widely considered their finest work, and it features Prichard's solo from a demo tape carefully preserved on the track 'Tainted Past'. After Bush joined Anthrax in 1992 the band split, but a reunion in 1999 stuck, and they have been recording and touring ever since, with nine studio albums to their name.
