About
Few bands left a fingerprint on heavy metal quite like Accept. The Solingen outfit helped define speed metal with tracks like "Fast as a Shark" from their 1982 album Restless and Wild, and Stefan Kaufmann's kick drumming on that song is widely credited as a forerunner to thrash metal, predating Metallica and Slayer's debut albums by a year. Commercial breakthrough came with Balls to the Wall in 1983, the only Accept record to go gold in both the US and Canada, and Metal Heart in 1985 represented what many consider the band's creative peak. Accept has broken up and come back more than once, but their third reunion in 2009 with vocalist Mark Tornillo turned out to be genuinely fruitful. Six studio albums followed, including Blood of the Nations, Stalingrad, and Too Mean to Die, each cracking the German top ten. With over 17 million albums sold worldwide and guitarist Wolf Hoffmann as the sole constant member through every lineup shuffle, Accept have proven remarkably durable.
