Baby Keem built his name through some well placed contributions before his own solo work took off. Born Hykeem Jamaal Carter Jr. in Carson, California, he got early production credits on his cousin Kendrick Lamar's Black Panther soundtrack and Beyoncé's Lion King project before dropping his 2019 mixtape Die for My Bitch, which blended hip hop with pop punk and alternative rock textures. The lead single "Orange Soda" became a genuine slow burn hit, eventually going quadruple platinum. His debut studio album The Melodic Blue arrived in 2021 on PGLang and Columbia Records, debuting at number five on the Billboard 200 and going platinum. The Kendrick Lamar collab "Family Ties" won Best Rap Performance at the Grammy Awards, and his contributions to Kanye West's Donda and Lamar's Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers landed him two Album of the Year nominations. His second studio album Casino followed in February 2026.
